Writing Effective Prompts

AI Generation

Tips and techniques for writing prompts that produce high-quality, click-worthy thumbnails.

The quality of your thumbnail depends largely on the prompt you write. THUMBEAST is trained specifically for YouTube thumbnails, so it understands concepts like "viral style", "reaction face", and "cinematic lighting" out of the box.

Prompt structure

A great prompt covers three areas: the subject (who or what), the scene (where and how), and the style (visual tone).

  • Subject: "A man looking shocked", "A woman holding a giant pizza", "Two people facing each other"
  • Scene: "Standing on a cliff at sunset", "In a dark room with neon lights", "Surrounded by piles of cash"
  • Style: "Cinematic lighting", "Vibrant saturated colors", "MrBeast-style thumbnail"

What works well

  • Be specific about expressions: "jaw-dropped shocked face" works better than "surprised"
  • Mention lighting: "dramatic side lighting", "golden hour", "studio flash"
  • Describe colors: "red and yellow palette", "neon blue accents", "high contrast"
  • Reference YouTube styles: "MrBeast-style", "documentary feel", "gaming thumbnail"
  • Include composition hints: "close-up shot", "wide angle", "rule of thirds"

What to avoid

  • Vague descriptions: "cool thumbnail" gives the AI nothing to work with
  • Too many subjects: keep it focused — one clear subject works best
  • Ignoring text: if you want text on the thumbnail, enable the text toggle and specify it
